Movements of social transformation and human rights.
Sociological Theory
Historical development of sociological thought. Study of structural functionalism, conflict theory, rational choice/exchange theory, social behaviorism and interactionism, ethno methodology, evolving contemporary feminist theory. Contribution of Muslim thinkers. Recent developments in integration and synthesis.
Social Research Methodology
Characteristics of scientific social research, scientific method. Selection and formulation of research problem, measurements, and unit of analysis; research design; scientific hypothesis/ sampling; data collection and tools; measurement and scaling; analysis and interaction of data; presentation of data and report writing. Use of computer and information technology in research, compilation and presentation. Ethics and privacy rights.
Statistics for Social Sciences
Meaning and use of statistics. Measures of central tendency and dispersion. Probability and normal distribution curve. Tests of significance and non-parametric tests; correlation and regression. Analysis of variance. Statistical inference and computer application. Limits of mathematical analysis in studies of human beings.
Cultural Anthropology
Study of living Humans - Significance and relationship of anthropology to other social sciences. Study of culture: language and communications; food and housing; economic systems; marriage, family and kinship systems; personality development; political and social organization; role of religion and magic; arts and expressive culture; process and problems of culture change. Issues of socialization and acculturation, and individual differences.

Introduction to concepts of change; theories and analysis; dynamics of social change in Pakistan and third world; obstacles to change; dealing with fear of change; analysis and sociology of economic development; concepts and dimensions of development; problems in development, resources, constraints and implications; analysis of development.
Social Problems of Pakistan
Nature and classification of social problems and role of sociologist insolving them. Specific problems: population, economic, agricultureal, drug and norcotics addition, health, sanitation, environment.
Social Entrepreneurship
Student will study Entrepreneurshop with particular focus on houw to apply principles in developing private organizations to solve social problems such as education, health, counsling, public hygiene, transportation, communication and pollution.
