This unit will educate students on the principles of management of modern telecommunications networks and services. It will also provide a practical understanding of the Telecommunication Management Network
(TMN) framework, modern signaling systems (CCS7, ISDN and TCP-IP), and the network numbering and addressing schemes that underpin management of telecommunications services, including the internet. |

Transmission Systems This subject covers fundamental structures functions, properties and performance of transmission systems. It includes: voice, video and data communications; performance requirements; characterization of communication signals, media and channels; analog and digital transmission; concepts of multiplexing; multi channel and multi carrier systems; frequency division, time division and code division multiplexing; hierarchical configuration of communication systems; SDH; analog and digital modulation and transmission techniques; noise and distortions in communication channels; equalization, error detection and error correction techniques; communication over band-limited channels; spread spectrum transmission; wireline, optical fibre, satellite, fixed microwave radio and mobile communication systems design and operation principles.
Organizations and Management Introduces and critically examines existing management theory and practices. Covers processes of planning, organizing and controlling, problem-solving and decision making, and critical aspects of managing people, organizational environments, and change. Deals with recent developments in managerial thinking, and issues of ethics, social responsibility, global and environmental concerns.
Marketing Principles Examines the philosophy and role of marketing as a management discipline. Elements of the marketing process are examined so that students can apply marketing principles and practices to service and non service organizations in the public and private sector.
Business Statistics Describes how statistical tools can be used by decision makers in business environments. Statistical techniques are applied in typical business situations using the computer where appropriate. The topics covered may include: descriptive statistics, probability concepts and distributions, sampling, statistical inference and correlation and regression analysis.

Introduction to Information Systems Based on the theme of traditional systems development life cycle and the five component model of a computer system in the context of both personal and distributed computer systems. Fundamental concepts of computer applications as well as specialist applications relating to the student course major are studies. Current industry standard hardware and software is used wherever possible.
